Global Golf4 Cancer’s Lough Erne to County Down 4-Flag Campaign Our campaign in Northern Ireland commenced in Spring 2019 – just a few months prior to the country hosting its first Open Championship since 1951 at Royal Portrush.
The ‘Lough Erne to County Down’ campaign highlights 20 of the country’s finest golfing venues: from the dramatically situated Faldo Course at Lough Erne Resort to world famous Royal County Down at Newcastle, and includes the likes of Castlerock, Portstewart, Royal Portrush, Malone, Royal Belfast and Ardglass. Each of these golf clubs has been invited to periodically fly a Global-Golf4-Cancer awareness flag on its 4th hole and to occasionally host or facilitate cancer fundraising activities.
The 3rd Global Golf4 Cancer ‘Golf-Walk’ Nick Edmund launched the ‘Lough Erne to County Down’ Campaign in March 2019 by embarking on a 4-week long Global Golf4 Cancer awareness-creating ‘golf-walk’ around Northern Ireland. After raising the GG4C 4-Flag at the fabled Faldo Course, Nick set off from beside the shores of Lough Erne and headed north to Derry-Londonderry; he then walked along the spectacular Causeway Coastal Route via Portrush, Bushmills and The Giants Causeway towards Belfast; and after visiting some of the capital’s top parkland courses journeyed around the Ards Peninsula to Ardglass and then on to Newcastle, eventually finishing on the 4th green at Royal County Down with its dramatic setting beneath the Mountains of Mourne. Nick walked the entire route carrying a set of golf clubs and played the 4th hole at each of the 20 featured courses along the way.
Involving the Golf Community Golf club members, visiting golfers and the wider golfing community can all participate in the on-going campaign - particularly by spreading the word (e.g. via social media) and through sponsoring or making donations to the cause. In developing the ‘Lough Erne to County Down’ 4-Flag Campaign, Global Golf4 Cancer is fortunate to have the support of IAGTO (the Global Golf Tourism Organisation) and North & West Coast Links Golf, as well as Tourism Northern Ireland. Their expert assistance enables us to maximise the awareness and fundraising potential of the campaign and publicise it both nationally and internationally.

"Belief drives you through time of self-doubt. It empowers you to make every single second count. Belief keeps passion alive and ambition burning strong. It can give you the power to do things you just didn't think were possible, and the ability to get up every morning and do it all again.”Rory McIlroy
